This is a brief guide to adding images to learnerblog.org pages.
Size isn’t everything
Blogs are web based and it should be remembered that a blog viewer will have to download the images on the blog. With this in mind it makes sense for images to be relatively small.
If taking pictures with a digital camera set the camera to take images at 640×480 or 800×600 max. (under .5 megapixel).
If images are too large they can be resized with software. There are a number of software titles which will perform this function. One example is Irfanview. This can be downloaded from: http://www.irfanview.com/
Using Irfanview to resize images
Download and install Irfanview from the link above. Launch the software.Either drag a picture to the Irfanview window or open a picture using file open.Click on Image – Resize/Resample

Select 640 x 480 Pixels.
Click on OK.
Go to File – Save As and save the image. It usually makes sense to save a copy as sometimes the larger original maybe needed in future.
Adding Images learnerblogs messages. On the message or page editor scroll down to the upload section.Click on the Browse button. Navigate to where the picture stored on your computer.

Click on the picture and then click on Open.
Click on Upload.
A thumbnail will then appear

(If more images need uploading at any point click on the Upload tab.)
The image can be dragged from the Browse window to the main editor window. The image will be placed on the page wherever the text cursor is. By default images added using this method will be displayed as thumbnails.
If you wish the images to be displayed bigger than thumbnail size then do the following.
Click once on the image in the browse window. Some options will be displayed.

By default images are displayed as thumbnails. Click on “Using Thumbnail”. This will then change to “Using Original”. Click on “Close Options”.
Drag the image from the browse window to the editor window.
The image can be resized. Click once on the image. Some handles will appear.

Click and drag the handles to resize the image. If the image is resized using the corner handles it should retain its proportions. As the handle is dragged a light grey size guide should appear. This guide shows how big the picture will be displayed in pixels. (266 pixels width on a landscape images seems to work well.)
Click on Save / Create Page to complete the authoring process.
NB Images should not be deleted from the browse window if they are being used on any pages. If images are removed from the browse window they will be removed from the server and hence not display in the blog.
